B. S. and M. S. in Chemistry from the Federal University of Pernambuco (1991 and 1994), Ph. D. in Chemistry from the University of Florida (2001) with postdoctoral experience from the Technische Universität München (2004) under U. Manthe supervision and the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (2006) under U. Röthlisberger supervision. Areas of expertise include modeling and simulation of chemical and biological processes using ab-initio Molecular Dynamics, classical MD, and QM/MM methods applied to reactive systems, weak interacting systems bound by van der Waals interactions and oxidative processes.

Research area

My current research interests lie in the field of theoretical chemistry. More specifically, I am interested in i) the application of advanced techniques to understand REDOX processes in chemical and biological systems ii) the description of weak interactions in biologically relevant systems and iii) the description of solid-liquid interfaces. Recent applications include the use of molecular dynamics and QM/MM techniques to understand the effects of large scale motion in the reactivity of proteins and to the description of aggregation of photosensitizers in solution from first principle calculations.
